Police Seize Smuggled Timber in Lekhapani Border Raid

Guwahati: Lekhapani police stopped a Bolero pickup late Sunday night packed with illegal timber. The truck, registration number AS 23 CC 4002, was caught moving goods from Namphai in Arunachal Pradesh toward Assam. Smuggling runs often target the Margherita, Lekhapani, and Ledo corridors.

Officers pulled the truck over near the Namsik Gate after reports of timber flowing from unauthorized sawmills in the Changlang district. Authorities seized the vehicle and the cargo on the spot. They handed everything over to the Lekhapani Forest Office for further legal action.

Locals pointed fingers at individuals identified as Bolan and Joshi for the illicit haul. Investigators are now vetting these claims. "The veracity of these claims has not been established and is expected to be determined during the investigation," a source noted. Officials hope this move slows the frequent, undocumented traffic crossing the border.
