Shillong: Police arrested 24-year-old Evertumshine Eawphian on Monday after a viral video exposed a house theft in Riatsohkhlur, Upper Shillong. The suspect is in custody. Officers tracked him down at Iew Ajmera following reports of the burglary on August 30.
The thief made off with gold ornaments, a Redmi Note 10 mobile phone, and 10,000 rupees in cash. CCTV footage provided the breakthrough police needed to identify the suspect. Acting on information from Eawphian, officers searched a drain near the 101 Area Bus Stand. They found a pair of gold earrings and a gold finger ring hidden there.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the arrest. "Investigation is on to identify others involved," Syiem said. Authorities registered the case at the Lumdiengjri Police Station under Sections 305(a) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
