Pangal Leaders Demand Recognition of Historical Role in Manipur Unity

Imphal: All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs Organisation president Meraimayum Salamat Ali wants the state to recognize the Pangal community. He insists their contributions to building a united Manipur demand preservation for future generations. Ali spoke at the Recalling Our Identity public discourse held at the Lilong Haoreibi College auditorium.

This event featured AMMPACO, the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, and the Lilong Haoreibi College Students Union 2025-26. They launched this initiative three days ago across multiple locations. Resource persons included DM University associate professor Dr. Arambam Noni, Dr. Md. Farijuddin Khan, and social activist Pheirojam Nando Luwang.

Ali stated, "The Pangal community had been an integral part of Manipur for centuries, contributing significantly to the state's development and collective identity." He argued that limiting the community to just traditions, attire, or cuisine ignores their real historical impact. Differing narratives among local groups currently stir division. Ali urged the public to revisit historical accounts and document past efforts. This keeps the community role in the state identity from being forgotten. He ended the session by calling for sustained work to strengthen harmony among all Manipur residents.
