Imphal: AMUCO and five other organizations gathered at Cheiraoching in Thangmeiband to mark the 130th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot. The event honored the man who shaped Manipur through his work in social reform, sports, culture, and political movements.
AMUCO president Sorokhaibam Sanjoy took the stage to push for a revival of Irabot's ideals. He pointed to the activist's lifelong fight against British colonial rule as a model for modern Manipur. Sanjoy stated, "Irabot's contribution extended beyond politics to social reform, culture, sports and people's movements."
Irabot fought for peasants. He led workers. He was a central figure in both Nupi Lan movements and dedicated his school days to the public welfare. Born in 1896, his life remains a blueprint for the younger generation to follow. AMUCO officials promised to keep his legacy alive through ongoing efforts to carry forward his vision of a fair, just society.
