Three Bodoland University Professors Named Among World's Top Scientists

Guwahati: Three faculty members at Assam's Bodoland University hit the 2026 Stanford-Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists database. They earned this honor for work in environmental sciences, energy, and plant biology. This achievement boosts the school's research profile across the North-East.

Prof. Hemen Sarma of the Department of Botany grabbed a subject-wise rank of 933 in environmental sciences. He has now made the list four years in a row. Prof. Sanjay Basumatary ranked 2,323 in the energy category. He has appeared on the list for three straight years. Dr. Sanjib Baruah, also of the Department of Botany, joined the group for the first time. He holds a rank of 2,675 in plant biology and botany.

The database uses standardized citation indicators from Scopus data to rank researchers based on annual and career-long impact. Bodoland University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. L. Ahuja celebrated the news. He urged the staff to push for better innovation. "He encouraged faculty members to pursue high-quality research, promote innovation and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration."

Ahuja also wants more visibility for the university on the world stage. This success should push students and younger teachers to dive deeper into scientific work. The school aims to keep growing its influence in the region.
