Guwahati: Richita Hazarika is heading to Spain. The North Lakhimpur scientist secured a fully funded doctoral fellowship under the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme. She will join the Universidad Pública de Navarra to work on the MGICIAN project.
Hazarika aims to develop magnesium-based thermoelectric materials for energy-efficient cooling. She is a 2025 MTech gold medallist from Tezpur University. Her work focuses on building a hybrid refrigerator that stops temperature fluctuations. She will operate under the supervision of Professor David Astrain in the Department of Engineering.
The MGICIAN initiative links academic and industrial partners across Europe. It trains 15 candidates to meet the EU’s climate and energy goals. Hazarika is the daughter of entrepreneur Prabhat Hazarika and librarian Runjun Baruah. The fellowship is named after Nobel laureate Marie Curie, who, as the program states, “support researchers through international research opportunities, interdisciplinary training and career development.”
