Kohima: Legal experts and state officials gathered at Kevi Hall, KROS College, Kohima, on September 16 to warn students about the dangers of digital fraud. The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection held the event alongside the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority and the KROS College Economics and Political Science department.
Neiko Akami of the NSLSA explained how the Consumer Protection Act of 2019 guards buyers against bad products and exploitative trade. This law forces a three-tier system for settling disputes. It gives people the right to choose, safety, and clear information on product pricing. Victims can report traders who push dangerous goods or misleading ads. Use your rights. Do not let companies cheat you.
Shiloh Kath, Joint Controller of the LMCP, pushed students to stay alert. The modern era makes shopping easy but risky. People must watch for fake sites, scam calls, and manipulated media. He noted, "We also implement Package Commodities Rules, 2011, which require mandatory declarations of all aspects such as weight, volume, number and addresses of manufacturers, importers, packers, MRP, etc.," to ensure fairness.
The LMCP maintains accurate weights and measures through laws dating back to 2009. Shiekhozo, Assistant Controller, urged students to report any unfair practices they encounter. Education is the best weapon. The event featured a welcome by Principal Dr. Emilo Ovung and was chaired by Assistant Professor Vizongono Victoria Rote.
