Chakhesang Baptist Church Children Ministry Marks 50 Years

Kohima: The Children Ministry of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima (CBCK) marked its 50th jubilee from October 31 to November 1. It happened at the church premises. The celebration followed the theme Heritage of Hope. Attendance has surged. The program started with 30 students in 1976 and now reaches 1,186 as of 2026.

Dr. Adela Mero, an administrator at Rainbow Academy Resource Centre in Dimapur, served as the morning speaker. She urged the congregation to prioritize faith over anxiety. "Hope does not come from our own effort. It comes from the Lord," she said. Rev. Khrotso Mero released the jubilee souvenir during that same service. Later, missionary Vekuthonu Perikala addressed the evening crowd.

The ministry officially kicked off in 1976. Ato Rhakho led as the first teacher until 1979, later joined by assistant Vevotsolu Medeo in 1977. Long-term growth relied on a steady rotation of leaders. Zunezo Tunyi, Ekhahu Rose, Kusholu Khuso, and Huvevo Sakhamo kept the work moving for decades.

Senior pastor Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh dedicated the jubilee plaque on October 31. Prelou Mero chaired that ceremony. Surhuveyi Tetseo sounded the jubilee trumpet. Church leadership emphasized that children represent a divine trust. Director Vesakho Thisa and superintendent Khruhizo Dozo spoke on the need to keep nurturing future generations. Planning committee convenor Er. Wekulhi Lohe managed the logistics, while Dr. Chikhungo Puro led the prayer for the feast.
