Kohima: Nepali Baptist Church Kohima kicked off its Golden Jubilee at the church premises in Midland on July 31. The event celebrates 50 years of ministry under the theme "And Forget Not All His Benefits." Rev. Dr. K. Santabir Rai, executive secretary of AGBCN, dedicated a commemorative monolith and delivered the inaugural sermon.
The first day featured a Jubilee Lamp Lighting Ceremony, organized by Narayan Bahadur, Gagan Thapa, and John Thakuri. Pastor Jack Thapa released a commemorative souvenir before the Jubilee Choir and the Nepali Baptist Church of Sechü Zubza provided musical performances. C.B. Gurung ended the day with a benediction.
The second day focused on thanksgiving. Former pastor Surjay B. Sapkota chaired the morning service. Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, addressed the crowd. He spoke from Ephesians 3:20-21, noting that God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." The service included tributes to late founder Jodhbir Hamal and greetings from various local pastors.
Evening events turned toward mission work. Rev. Rajendra Malla, president of the Nepal Baptist Church Council, spoke on Leviticus 25:10. He highlighted three decades of missionary efforts in Nepal. He urged congregants to pursue reconciliation and push younger believers, particularly Gen Z, to engage in evangelism. The service included special music from the Jubilee Choir and the Nepali Baptist Church of Peducha.
The festivities conclude August 2. Sunday’s schedule features a 10:00 AM devotion led by Rev. Dr. Rachulie Vihienuo. A 3:00 PM valedictory service will follow with speaker Visato Yhoshü. The celebration wraps up with a 6:30 PM cultural night.
