Kohima: Kohima’s health officials convened on Wednesday to assess immunization, TB control, and HIV/AIDS interventions. Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem chaired the session. Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro reported that school-level vaccinations now require formal parental consent. The task force is also coordinating with the National Cadet Corps to expand immunization coverage.
The meeting addressed critical health gaps. Dr. Avonu Sophie presented audits for two recent child deaths linked to congenital heart disease and septicaemia. Regarding the Intensified IEC Campaign 2026, Sentimongla Tsudir announced that 21 villages and 70 schools are targeted for outreach. Meanwhile, Kohima currently tracks 342 active TB patients. Dr. Chibenthung Kithan noted that while 100 patients have community donors, progress is slow. He stated, “an ongoing shortfall of certified radiographers and technicians has hindered full operational deployment of the diagnostic hardware.” The committee plans to open a joint bank account for donations, complete with a dedicated QR code.
Separately, the Shamator District Planning and Development Board met at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Vice Chairman Arikumba led the review of road connectivity and government schemes. Department heads highlighted persistent bottlenecks. Arikumba ordered officials to conduct rigorous on-site monitoring of all active projects. The Agriculture Department delivered a presentation on current farm outreach programs. Leaders in Shamator emphasized that better communication between departments is essential to meeting district development targets.
