Kohima: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) 17th Chizami Area Unit swore in new village and town office-bearers at Chizami Town Hall on July 30. Chubutse Naro, NPF Phek Division president, presided over the oath. The event saw party leaders, including advisors Ciekrosayi Lohe, Salünyi Krocha, Shekhozo Thülüo, Ngaonyi Lea, Nievotso Medeo, Ciekhurayi Vadeo, Kelhouvelo Tsuzuh, Vezopa Wezah, and Cekropa Tenenu, call for greater organizational integrity.
Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye urged workers to respect the party constitution. He addressed the ongoing Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) demand for a separate administrative arrangement, noting that the Tripartite Agreement from February 5, 2026, moved the process forward. The minister warned against the escalating crisis in Manipur, citing the constituency's porous border. He cautioned, "Nagaland cannot fight another man's war, nor should it allow the battlefield to shift into Nagaland." He also condemned the proliferation of multiple Naga Political Groups as a barrier to peace.
Meanwhile, a mass defection bolstered the NPF ranks in Kohima. Twenty-eight members from the National People’s Party (NPP) jumped ship to join the NPF. The group included eight Kohima District Executive members, 10 members from the 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency Youth Wing, and 10 members from the Women’s Wing. They cited the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio as the primary driver for their exit from the NPP. The defectors declared that "politics must always serve the greater interests of the Naga people."
The Chizami unit event included a welcome address by Working President Zulhite Tsido and was chaired by Kotsope Rhakho. Attendees reaffirmed support for Kenye and Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio. The gathering concluded with music, prayers from P. Paul Dukru and Khelizulo Z. Mero, and a formal vote of thanks.
