Kohima: The Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation joined forces with the Bureau of Indian Standards to host a sensitization workshop in Dimapur this Saturday. The event focused on teaching local entrepreneurs about quality standards, certification processes, and the necessity of building consumer confidence in a modern, interconnected market.
NIDC general manager Temjenyanger Jamir opened the session by explaining that while local businesses create innovative products, they frequently struggle to reach wider markets due to a lack of formal certification. He encouraged attendees to use the event to connect with experts and begin aligning their goods with national safety and reliability requirements.
BIS Guwahati director Shouvik Chanda outlined the national body's reach, detailing various schemes including ISI and ISO 9001 certifications. He emphasized that adopting these standards is a critical step for businesses looking to professionalize their operations and ensure long term growth.
Addressing the participants, NIDC chairman Kvulo Lorin pushed for immediate action from local business owners. He announced that the corporation will now act as a single window facilitation center to assist enterprises with financing and paperwork. During his address, he stated, “The time for sensitization is over; the time for implementation is now.”
Lorin also requested that the BIS develop industry specific guides for key Nagaland sectors like food processing, bamboo, textiles, and construction. He pledged that the NIDC would track certification progress over the next 90 days to ensure measurable outcomes. The event wrapped up with technical sessions covering laboratory testing, conformity assessments, and direct consultations with BIS officials.
