New Zunheboto Police Office Remains Vacant After Two Years

Kohima: The new Superintendent of Police office in Zunheboto sits empty. Construction cost 1.5 crore rupees. It has been finished since 2019, yet the doors remain locked. Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and DGP Rupin Sharma inaugurated the site virtually on August 7, 2023, but the building is not ready for police work.

SP Dr. Kupe Kupfo pointed to major security gaps. The site lacks a perimeter fence. This leaves sensitive police files exposed to anyone who wanders onto the property. Dr. Kupfo said, "One of the primary issues is the absence of proper boundary fencing, which raises serious security risks."

Connectivity is another nightmare. Reliable internet does not exist at the site. Police staff need constant data links to handle incident reports and internal systems. Requests for new cell towers have stalled due to past land disputes in the town.

The facility also suffers from poor design choices. It lacks a dedicated signal room and a functional guard room. Current workspaces are far too small for the department to handle daily business. Until the government fixes these problems, the force stays in its old building.
