Shillong: Shillong faces a mounting trash problem. Rising consumption and shifting lifestyles put massive pressure on the city's current systems. Rony Saha launched Recycle Bazzar to fight back. He wants to overhaul how the city handles discarded items.
The startup uses a mobile app to link households, businesses, and collectors. This decentralised network aims to make the whole process transparent and easy. Saha noted: "Our main goal is not just to talk about Recycle Bazzar but to create awareness about responsible waste management."
The app pays people to recycle. It accepts old newspapers, plastic, metal, and broken electronics. Instead of filling landfills, these goods get a second life. The team hopes these cash rewards will push residents to stop tossing valuables in the bin.
Effective recycling starts at home. The group urges people to segregate paper, plastic, and metal at the source. This cuts down on landfill waste and boosts efficiency. They also give credit to the workers who handle this discarded material daily.
Challenges remain, including a lack of infrastructure and bad habits. The initiative plans to fix this by building partnerships with schools, government offices, and local businesses. They want to turn trash into a resource.
