Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Marks 50 Years

Kohima: Nepali Baptist Church (NBC) Kohima kicked off its golden jubilee celebration on July 31 at its Midland premises. The event marks 50 years of ministry under the theme, "And Forget Not All His Benefits." Rev. Dr. K. Santabir Rai, executive secretary of AGBCN, dedicated a commemorative monolith and delivered the inaugural sermon. Narayan Bahadur chaired the dedication, while Gagan Thapa offered the invocation. Nandu Kumar Thapa and Rekha Thapa handled scripture readings. Pastor Jack Thapa released the golden jubilee souvenir introduced by John Thakuri, followed by greetings from Khyomo Lotha and music from the Jubilee Choir and NBC Sechü Zubza.

Worship continued August 1. Former pastor Surjay B Sapkota chaired the morning service. Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council preached from Ephesians 3:20-21. He honored founder Jodhbir Hamal and his vision. Reminding congregants of their purpose, he stated, "God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." The morning session included scripture by Uttam Kumar Bharati and Neeraj Karki, plus greetings from Rev. Phomlee Phom and Rev. Dr. Ruokuovilie Sachü. Rana Chettri delivered the benediction.

Karna Thakuri led the evening service. Rev. Rajendra Malla, president of the Nepal Baptist Church Council, spoke on Leviticus 25:10, highlighting three decades of NBC mission work in Nepal. He called for reconciliation and urged Gen Z members to join evangelistic efforts. Participants included Nanda Prasad Tiwari, Md. Israil, Puran Basnet, and Hari Magar. The celebration runs through August 2. The final day includes a 10:00 AM devotion with Rev. Dr. Rachulie Vihienuo, a 3:00 PM valedictory service with Pastor Visato Yhoshü, and a 6:30 PM cultural night.
