Kohima: Nepali Baptist Church (NBC) Kohima finished its three-day Golden Jubilee celebration on August 2, capping 50 years of ministry. The event brought together church members, pastors, and guests to honor the congregation’s history and pioneers, led by the late Jodhbir Hamal.
The second day focused on thanksgiving and future mission work. Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, General Secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, delivered a sermon on the theme Beyond Our Expectations. He told the crowd that God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." The morning session featured speakers including former pastor Surjay B. Sapkota, Vicky Gurung, Uttam Kumar Bharati, and Neeraj Karki. Attendees heard greetings from Rev. Phomlee Phom and Rev. Dr. Ruokuovilie Sachü, while the Jubilee Choir and Khedi Baptist Church provided music.
The evening service shifted toward evangelism. Rev. Rajendra Malla, president of the Nepal Baptist Church Council, highlighted the church’s three decades of mission work in Nepal. He urged the congregation to push for reconciliation and encourage Gen Z to join ministry efforts. Nanda Prasad Tiwari, Md. Israil, Puran Basnet, Narayan Bahadur, and Hari Magar also participated in the evening program.
The final day started with a Jubilee Devotion led by Dr. Gopal Basnet Chetri. Rev. Dr. Rachülie Vihienuo, Executive Director of the Angami Baptist Church Council, preached from Joshua 24. He called the church a mature body and urged members to avoid complacency. The service included a prayer reaffirming the 2001 motto, To Reach the Unreached.
The valedictory service featured Pastor Visato Yhoshü, who spoke on remaining rooted in scripture. Other contributors included Chupaman Rai, Nil Tamang, Rachel Thapa, Thejao Vihienuo, and Rev. Muktinath Sharma. The celebration ended with a cultural night on August 2 following the final benediction by Mrs. Elizabeth Giri.
