Guwahati: Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sharma is out. The Assam government accepted his request for voluntary retirement this week, ending his tenure as the district's top administrative official. Sharma submitted his paperwork just days ago. He officially opted to leave active government service.

The administration moved him into the Nagaon office during a shakeup on December 24, 2025. Sharma held several roles before this final stint. He previously served as the District Commissioner of Morigaon and held the post of Resident Commissioner at Assam House in Mumbai. The government has yet to name his replacement. Officials have not shared who will fill the vacancy left by Sharma as they continue to weigh the "next appointment to the post of District Commissioner of Nagaon."
