Kohima: The Yimkhiung Women’s Organisation has demanded a fast-tracked trial for IAS officer Reny Wilfred. He faces serious allegations of serial sexual harassment and molestation. The group submitted a formal request to the Nagaland Commissioner via the Deputy Commissioner of Shamator to break the current legal stalemate.
Charges against Wilfred span the Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. These cases originated at Noklak Police Station before moving to the State Crime Police Station in Kohima. Despite the severity of these accusations, the group claims the trial is crawling along.
The organization worries the delay allows for potential witness intimidation and evidence tampering given Wilfred's rank. They argue that justice delayed creates lasting mental trauma and social stigma for survivors. It also shatters public faith in the law. YWO president K. Ester signed the formal plea for immediate judicial action.
The group remains firm in their appeal. "The undersigned trust that your esteemed office, which has always stood for the safety and dignity of women and vulnerable sections of society, will take immediate cognisance of this matter and ensure that justice is not delayed," the document stated. Neither the state government nor the accused officer has issued a response to these demands.
