Kohima: Nagaland posted a 3.94 percent wholesale inflation rate for the first quarter of 2026. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics released the figures, showing the state index hit 173.26 against a 2012 base year. Prices rose steadily throughout the quarter.
Primary Articles led the spike with 4.20 percent inflation. Fuel and Power followed at 3.20 percent, while Manufactured Products rose by 1.16 percent. Food articles carry the heaviest weight in the index at 81.01. Non-food items sit at 2.53 and minerals at 0.14.
The State DIPR noted that the overall index climbed 0.55 percent in February and 0.56 percent in March. Fuel and Power hit a peak monthly jump of 1.27 percent in February. Meanwhile, Manufactured Products saw their fastest growth in March at 0.76 percent. The index for Primary Articles moved from 174.81 in January to 176.69 in March. Fuel and Power rose from 160.33 to 162.73 during that same stretch. Manufactured Products finished the quarter at 159.38.
The agency monitors these trends through its quarterly price statistics. The report highlights that the “State Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and Year-on-Year Inflation Rate (%) by Major Groups, January-March 2026” serves as a baseline for measuring cost shifts across the regional market.
