Kohima: Deputy Commissioner Polan John opened 20 bamboo market stalls on September 25. The structures sit in Kukidolong, New Medziphema, and Medziphema. IDBI Bank funded the project. The stalls provide a permanent home for local farmers, entrepreneurs, and vendors to sell their wares.
John praised the partnership during the launch event. He noted the project highlights the strength of working together with financial institutions. "The initiative reflected collaboration between the district administration, financial institutions and local communities," John stated. He pushed the new stall owners to use the spaces to build their livelihoods.
Solar panels are coming to the sites soon. John tasked village councils with the maintenance of the infrastructure. ADC Medziphema P James Swu added that the stalls serve as a long-awaited platform for local artisans. Zubenthung Jami, representing IDBI Bank, expressed hope for future joint projects.
The officials toured local farms after the ribbon cutting. They inspected piggery, poultry, rabbit, and cattle operations. The team included ADC P James Swu, EAC Vithwel Kweho, and RO Thejavizo Nakhro.
