Nagaland Opens New Indigenous Learning Centre in Phesama

Kohima: The Nagaland Department of Art and Culture officially inaugurated the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre in Phesama village, Kohima district, on June 17. The facility serves as a dedicated hub for preserving and documenting indigenous Naga heritage and traditional knowledge systems for future generations.

Commissioner and Secretary Bodeno S. Colo attended the ceremony as the special guest. During the event, she emphasized the vital role of the centre in fostering experiential learning, indigenous studies, and community-based economic growth. She noted that the centre has the potential to promote cultural tourism and added, "The centre has the potential to promote cultural tourism, indigenous studies, experiential learning and community-based economic development."

The project received funding and support from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the North Eastern Council. Executive Engineer Kakheli Swu detailed the project objectives and infrastructure during the presentation of the technical report. Metekhriezo Patrick Kuotsu, representing the executing agency M/s Delie Metha and Son Enterprise, expressed appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders and the support provided by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

The inauguration ceremony included a dedicatory prayer by Associate Pastor Vito-o Kuotsu and a musical performance by Neilaü Thaprü. The Department of Art and Culture stated that this new facility demonstrates the state government's ongoing commitment to balancing the protection of cultural traditions with sustainable development and tourism initiatives.
