Nagaland Opens New Indigenous Inn and Learning Centre in Phesama

Kohima: The Department of Art and Culture inaugurated the Naga Indigenous Inn cum Learning Centre in Phesama village, Kohima, on June 18, 2026. This new facility aims to protect and share traditional knowledge systems and cultural practices unique to the region.

Commissioner and Secretary for Art and Culture, Bodeno S. Colo, served as the special guest for the event. The ceremony opened with the unveiling of a commemorative stone monolith and a ribbon-cutting ritual. Associate Pastor Vito o Kuotsu of the Phesama CRC provided a dedicatory prayer, while Teisovikuolie Therie, deputy director of the department, chaired the proceedings.

Executive Engineer Kakheli Swu delivered a technical report outlining the infrastructure and project goals. During her address, Colo stressed that the center serves as a vital resource for safeguarding heritage. She stated, "The Centre’s potential to promote cultural tourism, indigenous studies, experiential learning and community based economic development" represents a significant advancement for the local area.

Funding for the project was provided through the Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council. Representatives from the executing firm, M/s Delie Metha and Son Enterprise, thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his support. The government intends for the site to function as a hub for both education and sustainable community development for future generations.
