Kohima: State officials, scientists, and experts met at the ICAR Research Complex in Jharnapani to map out Nagaland's agricultural future. They want to align the state with the federal Viksit Bharat@2047 goal. Farming is the key. Everyone agreed on that.
Dr. H. Kalita opened the talks by calling for institutional unity to turn local farms into profitable operations. He noted that agricultural sectors will play a key role in ensuring food security, improving farmers' livelihoods and driving the state's economic growth. Attendees discussed how to blend traditional crops with modern, climate-smart technology.
Dr. G. Kadirvel pushed for evidence-based planning. He wants closer ties between research labs and government agencies. Meanwhile, Dr. B.P. Bhatt urged farmers to lean into indigenous medicinal plants to make their work more sustainable.
Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse pledged the government will focus on better infrastructure and stronger supply chains. The session finished with a firm resolution to boost agri-entrepreneurship and raise farmer pay. Now, the team faces the hard work of turning these ideas into reality.
