Kohima: Nagaland Minister for Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, is calling for specialized agricultural policies to address the unique needs of mountainous regions. Speaking at the National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign 2026 in New Delhi, Kruse argued that hill states require distinct strategies rather than uniform national frameworks.
Kruse highlighted that climate change poses a significant threat to regional farmers. Issues such as unpredictable rainfall, landslides, and soil erosion are increasingly disrupting traditional farming cycles. To combat these challenges, she advocated for increased investment in climate-resilient technologies and real-time advisory systems tailored specifically for hilly terrain.
The Minister remains optimistic about the potential of the North East to lead an Evergreen Revolution. She believes that by strengthening partnerships between the central government and state authorities, Nagaland can set a new standard for agriculture-led development across the country.
