Kohima: The Nagaland Home Department has ordered village authorities across the state to strictly enforce a ban on single-use plastics. This directive aligns with guidelines set by the Supreme Court and the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules of 2021.

Officials reaffirmed existing prohibitions on the manufacturing, sale, and use of numerous items. Restricted products include plastic carry bags, cutlery, thermocol, polythene, nylon, and PVC materials. The order also bans the use of flex banners and plastic posters throughout the state.

The government further prohibited the use of packaged drinking water bottles smaller than 20 litres during official events. Local authorities must now ensure that these environmental regulations are fully implemented across all village jurisdictions.
