Kohima: Nagaland officials launched a statewide pulse polio campaign on Sunday. They aim to vaccinate more than 143,530 children under the age of five. The state set up 2,400 booths to handle the massive rollout. The drive officially started at the Seikhazou Urban Primary Health Centre in Kohima.

State Immunisation Officer Imkongtemsu Longchar oversaw the launch. He pushed for universal participation to keep the region safe. "The oral polio vaccine is safe, free and highly effective," Longchar stated. He urged all parents to get their kids to the booths without delay.

The state has seen no polio cases since 1997. India cleared the virus in 2014. Health workers will shift to door-to-door visits on Monday. This sweep catches any children who missed their dose during the Sunday event.
