Kohima: Nagaland mobilized health workers and officials on Sunday to launch the National Immunization Day. The drive aims to keep India polio-free by vaccinating children under five years old. Districts across the state set up hundreds of booths to reach local families.
In Dimapur, officials established 480 booths to reach over 43,000 children. Health teams will transition to house-to-house visits on June 29 and 30 to track down any missed infants. Similar mop-up operations are scheduled in Mokokchung, Phek, and across other districts to ensure total coverage.
Tuensang ADC Berimong noted the ongoing threat from countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan. He urged parents to ignore misinformation, stating: "He urged parents not to give in to rumours or misconceptions about the vaccine, assuring that it is safe and effective."
Mon district deployed 42 supervisors to manage 239 booths for their target of 23,712 children. In Wokha, Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao opened the campaign at the CMO office. He told residents that prevention remains the best way to safeguard the health of future generations.
Local organizations joined the effort. The Dimapur24x7 Foundation worked alongside district hospital staff to staff booths at New Market and the Erose Line Assam Bus Stand. Volunteers and medical teams continue to press for 100 percent participation.
