Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav marked West Bengal’s State Foundation Day on Saturday with a formal ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Kohima. The event celebrated the eastern state's profound impact on Indian history, science, and the arts, while highlighting its essential role in the nation’s independence movement.
Addressing the audience, the Governor lauded West Bengal as a cradle of intellectual thought and social reform. He noted that the state has produced numerous visionaries who shaped modern India. Paying tribute to key figures, Yadav recognized the literary contributions of Rabindranath Tagore and the patriotic influence of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He also highlighted the lasting impact of spiritual leaders like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda, whose teachings remain vital today.
Reflecting on the historical significance of the region, the Governor remarked, "West Bengal occupies a unique and distinguished place in the country's history as a cradle of intellectual thought, cultural renaissance, literature, art, science and social reform." He praised the people of West Bengal for their role in the Swadeshi Movement and their enduring commitment to progress.
The celebration included a video message from the Governor of West Bengal alongside speeches from community leaders Kamala Kant Paul and Sudipta Kumar. Cultural performances, including traditional folk dances and Rabindra Nritya, added a vibrant element to the proceedings. Governor Yadav concluded the event by emphasizing that such gatherings foster national unity and strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the people of Nagaland and West Bengal.
