Kohima: Nagaland officials have launched a crackdown on state hiring. The government formed a Working Group on Comprehensive Manpower Rationalisation to audit every state department. Finance Commissioner Kesonyu Yhome issued the order following a June 6, 2026, cabinet decision. The group has a strict three-month window to finish their report.
Akunu Meyase, secretary to the Government of Nagaland, will chair the team. Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao serves as the member secretary. Additional committee members include Vechotsiyi Neinu and Thejangulie from the Finance Department, Celine Asino Kulnu from the Law and Justice Department, and Phajathung Ovung from the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department.
Hiring is now on ice. The state imposed interim restrictions on creating new posts or filling existing vacancies. Departments cannot expand their payroll without finance approval. Any proposal to hire must clear the Manpower Rationalisation Committee and the State Level Committee on Expenditure Rationalisation and Revenue Mobilisation before heading to the cabinet.
The group will track sanctioned posts, redundant roles, and current staff counts. They must assess how technology affects staffing needs. Officials want to focus on "multitasking, redeployment and upskilling of existing employees" while trimming the fat. Every state board, corporation, and government department must hand over requested manpower data immediately.
