Nagaland Launches Review to Rationalize State Government Staffing

Kohima: The Nagaland government has established a Working Group on Comprehensive Rationalisation of Manpower to audit staffing levels across the state. This move targets departments, directorates, field offices, boards, corporations, and state public sector undertakings to meet fiscal consolidation goals. The group will analyze the functional necessity of every existing post to build a leaner staffing structure.

Departments must submit post-wise establishment data by August 7, 2026. These forms require signatures from both the Head of Department and the Administrative Head of Department. The official notification issued on July 15 states: "The exercise is founded upon a validated, post-wise establishment database, and the submissions now called for from Departments and Government establishments will constitute the primary record on which the findings and recommendations of the Working Group are to rest."

Failure to meet the deadline forces the Working Group to finalize reports based on incomplete payroll records. Each department must appoint a Nodal Officer at the rank of Under Secretary or Deputy Director. Departments should send officer details to the Working Group Secretariat within three days of the announcement. Staff can reach the secretariat at the Finance Department in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima, by calling +91-7085937495 or emailing manpowerslwg@gmail.com.
