Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio is pressing the central government to secure the release of six Naga individuals recently abducted in Manipur. Rio confirmed he spoke directly with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 29 to stress the gravity of the situation and request urgent government intervention to locate the missing persons and bring their captors to justice.

During their discussion, Shah assured the Chief Minister that the case is a top priority. Federal agencies are now working to identify the perpetrators and resolve the crisis. Rio has also coordinated with the Union Home Secretary and the director of the Intelligence Bureau to ensure a swift and unified response from all involved security branches.

As part of the effort to restore stability, Rio urged the United Naga Council to facilitate the release of 14 Kuki individuals currently held by Naga volunteers. He encouraged all parties to act with compassion and follow the teachings of reconciliation, noting that communal harmony remains critical during this period of high tension.

The Chief Minister expressed support for the Christian Forum, which recently called for an end to retaliatory violence. He encouraged the United Naga Council and other local leaders to continue working toward a peaceful resolution, emphasizing that protecting innocent lives remains the collective responsibility of all stakeholders.
