Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio wants honest numbers. He told residents on Friday to get the 2027 census right. The state previously rejected 2001 figures for being inflated and saw a strange decline in 2011. Bad data hurts schools and welfare programs. Rio says the state needs a true look at its people.
"The data we provide today will determine the future of our children for decades to come," Rio said. He wants village councils, churches, and tribal leaders to take charge of the process. Accuracy matters for planning and resource sharing. Everyone must step up.
Rio also leaned on the state's traditional roots. He pointed to Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution, which keeps Naga customs and governance safe. Village councils rely on consensus rather than elections to stay united. The Chief Minister also backed the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland. This system aims to stop outsiders from claiming indigenous rights that belong to the Naga people.
