Kohima: West Bengal Foundation Day was celebrated at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on June 20, bringing together cultural performances and tributes to the state’s historical significance. Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav served as the guest of honor, praising the region for its essential role in India's intellectual and social development.
During his address, the Governor highlighted West Bengal as a cradle of art, science, and reform. He paid homage to influential figures including Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, and spiritual leaders Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda. Yadav emphasized that the sacrifices made by the people of the state during the freedom movement remain a source of pride for the entire nation.
The Governor remarked, "India’s strength lies in its diversity of cultures, languages and traditions, and such occasions deepen mutual respect and fraternity." He noted that the shared commitment to progress between Nagaland and West Bengal helps build a more united country.
The event featured speeches from Bengali Samaj leaders Kamala Kant Paul and Sudipta Kumar, alongside a video message from the Governor of West Bengal. Students from BBR Academy and local artists concluded the program with performances of Rabindra Nritya and traditional folk dances.
