Kohima: Nagaland observed the International Day of Yoga on June 21, with various institutions and organizations hosting sessions under the theme Yoga for Healthy Ageing. The events aimed to foster physical fitness and mental well-being across the state.
At the Brahma Kumaris Rajyoga Meditation Centre in Kohima, observances included the Nasha Mukta Signature Campaign. Sessions held at the 13 Assam Rifles, the Kohima Head Post Office, and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited reached hundreds of participants. Rajyogini BK Rupa Behen, director of the Brahma Kumaris Kohima Centre, spoke to the attendees about the holistic benefits of the practice. She stated, "Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic way of life that strengthens both body and mind."
The Central Institute of Horticulture in Medziphema hosted an event aligned with the Ministry of Ayush. Director Dr. R. L. Raut encouraged staff to utilize yoga as a tool for preventive healthcare. Similarly, the Office of the Joint Controller of Communication Accounts held internal sessions to promote healthy lifestyles among its employees.
Community involvement also extended to the JITO Dimapur Ladies Wing, where members practiced the Namokar Mantra and various asanas. Furthermore, St. Joseph University in Dimapur facilitated a pre-event session on June 20. Led by Dilip Bhagat and Sajal Roy of the Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman Trust, students and faculty engaged in guided breathing and relaxation exercises to learn the practical benefits of daily yoga.
