Naga leader demands border resolution before oil drilling begins

Kohima: N Kitovi Zhimomi, convenor of the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups, blocked plans for new oil drilling. He warned that extraction in the Disputed Area Belt stays off-limits until Assam and Nagaland finalize their border. The statement follows a June 11 tripartite agreement between New Delhi, Assam, and Nagaland.

Zhimomi spoke at a public rally in Chümoukedima on June 27. He questioned the legitimacy of the recent deal. He believes proceeding without a clear border line hurts Nagaland. "This exploration and extraction will not be allowed to take place until and unless the inter-state boundary between Assam and Nagaland is clearly demarcated," Zhimomi asserted.

He pointed to the Agreed Position as the legal framework for resource management. He argued that land rights belong to the Naga people and should be governed by a future legislative body. Zhimomi also challenged the NSCN (IM) for boycotting the event. He accused the group of cowardice for refusing to share a platform with veteran politician SC Jamir.

Zhimomi denied rumors that he funds the Fed-Up Nagas movement. He claimed their groups simply share common goals. He urged the public to investigate who delays political agreements. He wants a post-mortem to identify officials playing a double standard game. The leader insists youth groups have a right to demand progress.
