Kohima: More than 500 people packed the Labh Mandapam in Indore on June 25 to celebrate the inaugural Cultural Day hosted by the All Madhya Pradesh Naga Welfare Society. This marked the first event of its kind organized by a northeastern community in the state. Sulika and Akika led the program, which kicked off with a ceremonial curtain-raising.
AMPNWS president Dr. Imlimenba Walling thanked the crowd for their support. BJP National Vice President Dr. M. Chuba Ao spoke on the importance of the region’s diverse traditions. He noted, "Its diverse cultures continue to promote peace, harmony and unity." He also encouraged the audience to visit Nagaland for the upcoming Hornbill Festival.
The event showcased traditional Naga identity through a colorful cultural parade and musical performances. Chui Ruangmei performed Rhythms of Life, while the Zeliangrong and Sumi communities shared folk songs and ballads. Nagaland advisor Daochier I. Imchen urged the community to guard their heritage. He said he hopes this gathering becomes a landmark annual tradition for members in Madhya Pradesh.
Local leaders including Pratap Nair, Jai Kumrawat, and Neeraj Sankat attended to show support. Tribes India ran an exhibition of indigenous goods, drawing heavy interest from the crowd. The day finished with a live concert featuring Boss Meren, Moko Koza, Emma Hmar, and Litoka Kinimi. Organizers plan to make this an annual fixture to keep Naga traditions alive for future generations.
