Kohima: Mumbai police arrested 36-year-old Faiz Irfan Adenwala on Friday following an investigation into his firearm licence renewal. Authorities allege that Adenwala submitted a forged Police Clearance Certificate to officials to renew an arms licence originally issued by the Nagaland government.

Officers from the Khar police station discovered that the suspect also failed to notify the Mumbai Police Commissionerate about his firearm possession, which is a mandatory legal requirement for all licence holders. Police have since registered a case against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for the creation and use of fraudulent documents, alongside charges filed under the Arms Act.

Investigators are now working to uncover the origin of the forged certificate. The probe aims to determine if the document is part of a larger criminal network focused on creating counterfeit paperwork to bypass standard arms licence regulations.
