MP Jamir Demands Action on Stalled Naga Peace Agreements

Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir brought the unfinished Naga peace process to the floor of Parliament on Thursday. He invoked Rule 377 to demand that New Delhi immediately move on long-standing political agreements. These deals have stalled for years. The delay leaves the Naga people in a state of limbo.

Jamir highlighted two key pacts: the August 3, 2015, Framework Agreement with the NSCN (IM) and the November 17, 2017, Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups. He noted that eleven years have passed since the first signature. Nine years have vanished since the second. The status of both remains in cold storage.

The MP told the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister that it is time to act. He argued that the government already claims negotiations are over. He stated: "The agreements should be upgraded to implementation."

Jamir warned of the consequences of further inaction. He fears mounting public frustration and the rise of new, aggrieved factions could wreck the peace. He insists that any final settlement must be transparent. The Naga people deserve to know the terms. The final deal must represent their true interests and aspirations.
