Guwahati: A patient monitor exploded inside Medical Intensive Care Unit 2 at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. The blast occurred at approximately 11.50 pm. Smoke and chaos gripped the ward. Staff scrambled to move 10 patients to MICU 1 and the General ICU as a precaution.
Reports surfaced linking the explosion to the death of a patient named Tirki. The hospital superintendent rejected this claim, insisting the death occurred earlier that night. "The patient died at around 11 pm, while the monitor exploded at approximately 11.50 pm," the superintendent stated. Hospital staff issued the death certificate before the unit caught fire.
The family of the deceased kept the body at the facility overnight. High nighttime transportation costs delayed their departure. Officials currently suspect a short circuit caused the blast. Investigators have yet to confirm the exact trigger. No other patients reported injuries, and the hospital confirmed the situation is stable.
