Kohima: The District Task Force on Immunization met on June 19 in Mokokchung to finalize logistics for the upcoming National Immunization Day and Pulse Polio Immunization Programme. Chairing the session, ADC Atsungba Walling coordinated with stakeholders and health officials to ensure the June 28 event reaches children aged up to five years old.
Dr. Limanaro, DPO for UIP and RCH, announced that 186 vaccination booths will be operational across the region. Following the initial immunization day, health workers, ASHAs, and AWWs will conduct house to house visits on June 29 and 30 to ensure comprehensive coverage. The program includes surveillance updates provided by Dr. M.A.H. Azhar from the WHO, which track global wild poliovirus data alongside local routine immunization efforts.
Beyond polio, the task force is prioritizing the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign, which runs through July 31. The initiative aims to achieve zero child deaths from the condition by promoting the use of ORS and Zinc. Officials identified sanitation, clean water access, and improved waste management as critical areas requiring community support. Encouraging collaboration, Walling stated, "Allied departments, stakeholders and NGOs to coordinate for successful implementation of the NID programme."
The health department also urged local members to advocate for the HPV vaccine, encouraging all eligible beneficiaries to get vaccinated. The administration plans to boost public awareness through social media, local announcements, and broad community outreach to maximize the success of these health programs.
