Shillong: MLA Rakkam A Sangma is fighting back. He wants the Health Minister, Wailadmiki Shylla, to fix a gaping hole in medical staffing across South Garo Hills. Sangma claims 30 health workers have been pulled from their posts without a single replacement moving in.
He sent a formal memo on Thursday to call out the mess. The Baghmara Civil Hospital is feeling the strain. Facilities from Chokpot to Rongara are operating on fumes. Sangma warned that the departures have left the remaining crews swamped and damaged basic care across the region.
The math is specific. Transfers hit 11 personnel across six locations. Another 12 staff members went to other districts. Seven more left Siju PHC for spots in Ampati, Tura, and Selsella. The list of missing talent includes nurses, pharmacists, laboratory assistants, and both Medical and Health Officers.
Public patience is wearing thin. Sangma noted that "the prolonged absence of these personnel has burdened the remaining staff and hampered public health services." He wants the government to send the staff home or find new recruits to fill the empty desks immediately.
