Mizoram Launches State-Wide Anti-Drug Campaign With Churches

Aizawl: Mizoram officials kicked off a state-wide anti-drug campaign on Sunday. The Social Welfare Department joined forces with the Mizoram Presbyterian Church at the Chamari Local Presbyterian Church in Aizawl. They aim to boost community rehabilitation and expand support for those recovering from addiction. The effort focuses on building effective and affordable care systems for everyone involved.

Social Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii pointed to the Hulhliap detoxification programme as a clear success. She plans to add new measures to improve long-term recovery support. "Narcotics Anonymous plays a vital role in helping individuals reintegrate into society after recovery," the minister stated during the event. Authorities are now setting up an After Care Skill Training programme. This initiative involves the Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod, Baptist Church of Mizoram, Evangelical Church of Maraland, and the Lai Independent Baptist Church of Mizoram.

Teams from the Mizoram State Drug Demand Reduction Board and the Mizoram Drugs User Forum will lead sessions. They have scheduled Narcotics Anonymous awareness events in 27 churches across Aizawl and nearby regions. The program also offers specific counselling for families caught in the cycle of substance abuse. Lalrinpuii wants volunteers and church members to push those struggling with addiction to sign up for these new services immediately.
