Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh spoke on Friday, August 14, about the lasting fallout of the 1947 Partition. The event took place at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl. The state Art and Culture Department organized the programme. Singh highlighted how the border split the Zo-Chin people across India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.
The Zo community includes Chin, Kuki, and Mizo groups with deep ethnic ties. The division of the Chittagong Hill Tracts left many families isolated. Migration figures reached staggering heights. Between 10 and 14 million people fled their homes during that chaotic era. The lines on the map were drawn in haste. Singh noted the process left “deep and permanent scars” on millions.
The governor asked the public to avoid assigning blame. He wants citizens to focus on honoring the victims and learning from the past. He told schoolchildren that India remains a single nation. He warned students to reject misinformation and study history with care. Unity is India’s greatest strength. People must stay united to push the nation forward.
