Guwahati: Barpeta held a somber event on August 14 to recognize the immense suffering and displacement caused by the Partition of India. District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak presided over the observance, which focused on the millions who lost homes or lives during that era.

Ditimoni Pegu, CEO of Zilla Parishad, spoke at the gathering. She urged citizens to keep history alive to build a stronger, more united nation. She said, "Such observances help strengthen patriotism, national unity and appreciation of the country’s journey."

Rajesh Kumar Dubey, Principal of Barpeta Kendriya Vidyalaya, served as the guest speaker. He detailed the brutal human cost of the split and the deep struggles of families forced to flee their lands. A documentary screened for attendees brought these raw experiences into focus. The event drew various local leaders, including the Additional Deputy Commissioners, the Election Officer, Assistant Commissioners, and multiple department heads from the DC Office. ADC Pranjal Pratim Konwar finished the day with closing remarks.
