Shillong: Kwis Sumer is finally home. The Muktapur village resident disappeared on July 15 after traveling to Karnataka for work. He reunited with his family in Shillong on Monday, ending a two-week search that mobilized law enforcement across two states.

The Meghalaya government stepped in after a July 27 memorandum triggered an urgent response. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma pushed for immediate action, forcing cooperation between regional agencies. A police team, headed by IPS officer Lovish Garg, flew to Bengaluru to track Sumer down. They relied on technical data and leads to map his movements.

Sumer reached out to his family via social media with help from Kavi Kumar, who had been sheltering him. Police moved quickly once they had the digital trail. They found the missing man in Tiptur, a town in the Tumakuru district. Dr. D. Rockyer L. Nonglait also played a key role by keeping communication lines open with the Chief Minister's office.

Authorities escorted Sumer back to Shillong, where he met his clan representatives before returning to his native East Jaintia Hills. Sangma praised the joint operation between the departments.

"With the help of the Karnataka Police, especially the Bangalore Police, and the hard work of the Meghalaya Police and other stakeholders, we were able to find him," the Chief Minister said. "He is back safely to our state and I take this opportunity to once again thank all those who have played a role."

Clan representatives accompanied the Meghalaya Police team during the flight to Bengaluru, working directly with officials on the ground to track Sumer down. The government also noted that community organizations provided additional backing during the search effort.

Sumer voiced his personal thanks to the Chief Minister and the rescue teams for securing his path home. Officials pointed to the operation as a win for how well local authorities, citizens, and community leaders can align when a search needs to cross state lines.

Investigators zeroed in on the location after working with senior Karnataka police officials, specifically DIG Iada Martin Marbaniang. The joint effort relied on intensive investigative work to reconstruct the timeline of his movements after he left home for work.

State officials highlighted this operation as a blueprint for future interstate cooperation. Beyond the police work, authorities officially credited Kavi Kumar for his specific role in sheltering Sumer and helping him reach out to his family, providing the breakthrough that ended the search.
