Shillong: Meghalaya faces a lingering dry spell. The India Meteorological Department expects rainfall to stay below normal for the coming weeks. The state usually sees heavy rain, but this season is different.
Thangjalal Lhouvum, the Head of Office at the Meteorological Centre in Shillong, cited a lack of moisture as the primary driver for the deficit. He noted that the state requires consistent moisture from the Bay of Bengal for a robust monsoon, and warned that the current supply has been insufficient. "Below-normal rainfall is expected to persist in the coming weeks," Lhouvum said.
The department maintains a system of five-day forecasts and seven-day warnings to track conditions. They work alongside the State Disaster Management Authority to push out severe weather alerts. Officials are now pushing residents to download the Mausam app for real-time updates.
