Guwahati: A large fire swept through the Doomdooma Daily Market in Assam's Tinsukia district on Sunday morning, destroying seven shops and causing significant financial losses. The blaze started around 6 am at a store called Choudhury Brothers, which stocked items including edible oil and puja supplies. The situation worsened when firecrackers stored inside the building caught fire, causing a series of explosions that allowed the flames to spread quickly to neighboring businesses.

Emergency responders arrived with five fire tenders to combat the blaze. Because the building lacked proper ventilation and access points, crews had to use an excavator to dismantle parts of the structure before they could fully contain the fire after seven hours of work. While no injuries occurred, local residents and traders have raised serious questions regarding safety regulations and the storage of hazardous materials in crowded commercial areas.

The incident took a mysterious turn when workers allegedly discovered a grenade like object among the debris during the cleanup. Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala visited the site with district officials to assess the damage and meet with affected owners. Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the fire and the origins of the suspicious item. Reflecting on the impact of the event, the local business community expressed deep worry about the loss, as one eyewitness noted, "loud blasts echoed through the locality as flames engulfed the building and quickly spread to neighbouring shops." Officials are now focused on reviewing licensing requirements and enforcing stricter fire safety standards to prevent future disasters.
