Imphal: The Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur and the Delhi Meitei Coordination Committee want the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups scrapped. They claim this pact has failed. The groups held a joint press conference at the Press Club of India in New Delhi on July 22 to demand the immediate end of the deal.
They filed a memorandum with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. They blame the truce for fueling illegal arms movement, extortion, narcotics trafficking, and unchecked violence. The groups argue that militants operate with impunity while law enforcement fails to act. They seek justice for the six Naga civilians found dead near Leilon Vaiphei on June 10, 2026. Suspects remain free. They also mourned Meitei civilians killed during the conflict.
The organizations slammed the Centre for the ongoing crisis. They also pointed to the burning of Meitei homes at Kanto Sabal near the Leimakhong Army Headquarters. They called this a massive security failure. The groups stated that "lasting peace in Manipur could only be achieved through equal justice for victims from every community." They also reject any plans for a separate administrative setup, fearing it would further tear the state apart.
