Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council pushed its government ultimatum back from October 10 to October 15. The group claims it wants to keep communication lines open as regional violence spikes. Tensions remain high. Two recent civilian deaths fueled the urgency behind the delay.
Domkhonei Touthang died on October 9 after alleged gunfire from Indian Reserve Battalion personnel. On October 10, NSCN-IM cadres reportedly killed Ngamminlen Haokip. These killings triggered deep anxiety across the Kuki-Zo community. The Council maintains that this five-day window allows state authorities and the Government of India time to address specific demands regarding justice, security, and accountability.
Officials emphasize that this delay is not a retreat. The group intends to hold the government to its promises. "The KZC said the two incidents had heightened insecurity and deepened anxiety within the Kuki-Zo community." Future protests or actions depend entirely on the official response from authorities and unfolding events on the ground.
