Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) joined forces with the Women Department of the Manipur Baptist Convention to run a one-day legal workshop. They met Wednesday at the MBC Training Hall in Imphal. The session taught local women about their legal protections and how to fight back when someone violates those rights.

W. Phajatombi Devi, the MSCW Member Secretary and Additional Director of Information and Public Relations, opened the event as part of a larger two-day seminar. She told the crowd that legal literacy is the key to female empowerment. The goal is to get women to take what they learn back to their home communities. "Active participation from attendees was essential to making such programmes meaningful," Phajatombi noted during her keynote.

MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang said the commission opened its doors in 2006. Many women still reach out to the office completely unaware of their basic legal options. The agency acts as a hub for filing complaints and finding support. Monsang confirmed that the state must hold these camps often to protect women and build awareness from the ground up.
